Space-Related FAQ

  • What is Space?

Answer will cite to an acceptable definition in a legal treatise, point out that it depends, and suggest maybe it is better understood in the negative.

  • Why space law?

Although the body of space law has been around for 60-70 years, the epoch of human spacefaring calls for a new approach to law in space. One which places human survivability at the forefront. There are myriad concerns which no one analogue adequately addresses. Exploring those concerns is one of the purposes of this blog. ~SpaceBlawg

  • Why space?

Put another way, the earth is an amazing home so why should we inhabit the space beyond its atmosphere?

    In short, why not?

Space is an unknown. Humans are curious about unknowns and seek to understand them. Our ability to understand more about space from earth-based observations or by way of earth-launched projectiles is at or near a critical mass.

Through ingenuity and building on past successes, humans have developed technologies, both theoretical and proven, which will allow us to advance our understanding of space beyond simply observing. A small number of humans have even successfully lived in space for extended periods of time.

Even with all the advances humans have achieved in the past nothing we do from earth will satiate the desire to understand space better than to permanently inhabit space.
